The Eco Council - Recycling at Magor School -
How we are helping at Magor School!
On our drive to help the environment and to prevent the ever-growing land-fillls that threaten our Countryside, Magor School has been working hard to improve recycling at the school. Here's how:
- Each class now has it's own paper recycling box - emptied weekly into the "black box."
- All cardboard waste is placed in "Wormtech" sacks to be munched into compost!
- Mrs. Barker recycles all the kitchen waste - tins, boxes and box meal containers.
- David Roman from Monmouthshire recycling gave an assembly to help us learn where best to send different materials for recycling.
- We have had a competition to design signs to raise awareness of how important it is to save electricity!
- The teachers recycle their food tins, wine bottles (If only...!) and aluminium foil in the staff room. They also put their fruit peel and tea bags in a pot for compost.
- We are making our own compost from our fruit and vegetable in a bin like this....
How can YOU help? |
- Use your black box every week for paper, tins, aerosols, foil (incl. takeaway foils), any colour glass, re-usable clothes / textiles. Boxes available from Monmouthshire recycling. see Monmouthshire link below for details
- Use Wormtech to take your garden rubbish, glossy card, toilet rolls etc. New sacks avaiable for £1 from Brian' Hardware, Chepstow amongst other places - great for sharp branches!!!
- Encourage your children to switch off lights, toys, computers and televisions (not just on stand-by!!! This uses almost as much electricity as being on!)
Try Some fun RECYCLING ACTIVITIES!!
(this is a Bristol based site where the
recycling procedure is slightly different to
ours but the games are worth a look!)
