Marking Policy

Marking Policy

It has been recognised by the staff that consistency of approach in the marking of pupils? work is of paramount importance.  It is a reliable indicator to staff, pupils and parents of the pupils? strengths and areas for development, and can provide points for action for the pupil.

Constructive comments are very useful, encouraging and rewarding for a pupil at the end of a piece of work.  These comments include action points for the pupil to be used in their next piece of work e.g. remember to use your dictionary.

When marking work it is our policy not to mark all the spelling mistakes except for use as a final copy.

Presentation of work

The following points have been agreed to ensure consistency of approach:

§       All work should be marked in pen

§       The date and heading should be written before commencing work.  Infants should be encouraged to begin writing the date by the end of the Reception year.

§       All work should be sensibly spaced.

§       At KS2 each piece of work should be ruled off and a new page commenced where appropriate.

§       All work should be marked relating to the learning objective of the lesson and, if appropriate, the individual target that has been set for that child.

§       Good work should be rewarded by House points, stars, smiley faces and stickers and may be presented to the headmaster for a headteacher?s stamp.
